Underpass in Weymouth gets ocean-inspired makeover
The murals in Westham feature turtles, sharks, jellyfish, seahorses, crabs and an octopus.
An underpass in Weymouth has been given an underwater makeover with vibrant new murals.
The walkway in Westham by the swannery has been decorated by two artists, alongside young people from youth and children's group Hope House.
The first subway mural has been finished and includes crabs, jellyfish, turtles, seahorses, sharks and a large octopus. Artwork on the second subway is now set to get underway.
The murals were funded with a £5,000 community grant awarded to the youth, children's and community centre by Weymouth Town Council in July.
The young people helped develop the theme, create the designs and paint the murals.
Hope House manager Joe Hobday said: "What has been particularly lovely is seeing how proud they are to have actually played a part in creating something that is now a permanent piece of art in our town.
"They have a real sense of ownership over it, and now that people are seeing it, they are all so excited to be able to say 'we helped make that'.
"We are really looking forward to getting involved in finalising the second subway too."
