Kinley Rasmus breaks LLWS hits record for a girl, 1 day after notching her second strikeout record

Kinley Rasmus continued her dominant run at the Little League World Series on Tuesday with another tournament record as her Phenix City, Alabama, team advanced from another elimination game.

A day after tying the total strikeouts records for a girl in the Little League World Series, Rasmus broke the tournament's record for most hits by a girl. She did so with a fifth-inning single that put runners on the corners in a 4-2 win for Phenix City over Tacoma, Washington.

The hit was Rasmus' fifth of the tournament to claim the record as her own. And Phenix City advanced while eliminating Tacoma.

On Monday, Rasmus made LLWS history on the mound — for the second time.

Rasmus struck out six to help lift Phenix City past West Chester, Pennsylvania, 6-5, in their elimination game Monday. The two-way star has compiled 14 total strikeouts in the tournament, which again matched Mo'ne Davis for the most strikeouts by a girl in tournament history.

Rasmus struck out eight in Phenix City's first game at the Little League World Series last week, which also tied a single-game record Davis set in 2014.

And thanks in part to Rasmus, Phenix City rallied out of a five-run hole on Monday night. Rasmus threw more than four scoreless innings after coming in for relief to help spark the rally. It marked the team's second straight elimination win.

Rasmus is the daughter of former MLB pitcher Cory Rasmus and the niece of former MLB outfielder Colby Rasmus . Cory is an assistant coach for Phenix City this summer, and both brothers played on Phenix City's 1999 Little League World Series team.

Rasmus is one of two girls playing in the tournament this year. Carsynn Meyer is playing for Paseo Verde (Nevada). They are among the 25 girls who have competed in the event's 79-year history.

While Phenix City can't lose again and advance, Rasmus has already put herself in elite LLWS company. She's one strikeout away from breaking Davis' record and may have another chance on the mound thanks to Tuesday's win.

Phenix City will next face Great Lakes winner Hamilton, Ohio, on Wednesday in another elimination game.
