NCPCR summons Meta India chief over alleged child sexual abuse material ads

NEW DELHI: The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has summoned Meta India's managing director and head of public policy for a hearing on Wednesday, September 9, over allegations concerning advertisements linked to Child Sexual Exploitative and Abuse Material (CSEAM) on Meta's platforms.The summons follows an inquiry initiated by the child rights body after it took suo motu cognisance of a BBC Eye report alleging the presence of advertisements related to CSEAM.The NCPCR had issued a notice to Meta Platforms Inc. on July 3, seeking an explanation from the company over the allegations. Meta submitted its response a week later.After examining the company's response, the NCPCR has now decided to institute an inquiry to ascertain the facts and circumstances of the matter.As part of the inquiry, the commission has summoned Meta India's Managing Director and Head of Meta India to appear before it on September 9.The proceedings are aimed at determining the facts surrounding the allegations and examining Meta's response to the concerns raised by the child rights body.Get the latest India News and Live updates.
