A 31-year-old man has been arrested in New York City following a manhunt for the person allegedly responsible for pushing a woman to her death from a 15th-floor balcony as she was holding her 8-month-old daughter. The New York City Police Department tracked down Angel Carrasco late Wednesday, hours after identifying him as the prime suspect in Nathaly Ramirez’s death. Investigators said the 23-year-old mother was holding her daughter when she was shoved from the balcony on Olinville Avenue, in the Allerton section of the Bronx, early Tuesday. Both plunged to the ground. Ramirez was pronounced dead at a hospital. The baby girl was taken there as well and remained in critical condition as of Wednesday. Authorities believe her mother’s body may have cushioned her fall. Officials said Carrasco was hiding out at a friend’s house when police caught up to him. He faces charges of murder, attempted murder, manslaughter, attempted manslaughter and assault. Police were reviewing surveillance video as part of their investigation. The video shows a man walking away in a hooded sweatshirt as police responded to the scene, police sources said. Sources said there was a history of domestic violence at Ramirez’s address, and police were looking to question her ex-boyfriend after the deadly incident. A witness who lives in the Allerville Arms apartment building said she heard yelling in the middle of the night before screams led people to find Ramirez’s body outside. A neighbor told NBC New York she heard the young woman pleading with someone before she and her baby plunged from the balcony. “I heard her yelling and screaming, ‘Please don’t do this. My baby. You know my baby is scared. Look at her face,’” the neighbor said. “Next thing you know, I hear her scream, and I see something hit the ground.” A high school classmate from the Bronx Leadership Academy who stopped by the growing memorial said he’d remember the young mother as a kind person. “She was always cool with everybody. She always talked to everybody,” he said. If she saw someone having a bad day, he said Ramirez would “joke with them to life their day up.” CORRECTION: (Oct. 8, 2026, 12:45 p.m. ET): A photo caption in a previous version of this article misstated the number of fatalities. This story has been updated to reflect that the baby girl remained in critical condition as of Wednesday.
