MV San Pawl sailings suspended after engine failure

Passenger sailings between Jersey and Guernsey have been suspended after a major technical failure on the MV San Pawl's starboard main engine.

Operator Islands Unlimited said services would not run until further notice while engineers carried out a full assessment of the vessel and worked to establish the extent of the fault.

The San Pawl is used for foot passenger crossings between the islands and earlier this year successfully completed trials to test whether it could also operate services to Alderney.

The company said the suspension had been introduced to ensure the safety of passengers, crew and the vessel.

Operations manager Jack Kitching said: "We truly regret this disruption to our service, particularly at the peak of our summer season.

"We deeply sympathise with our passengers whose plans have been impacted by this technical failure on board the vessel."

He added: "We are working hard to provide alternative travel arrangements where available and appreciate your patience."

The company said further updates would be issued as soon as more information was available.
