Lego brick models have been shipped from the UK for an exhibition in Guernsey telling the stories of different moments in history.

The Walk Through History in Lego bricks exhibition opened in the Brian White Gallery at Guernsey Museum at Candie on Friday and continues until 31 December.

Models have been transported by sea from the UK to create different sections of the gallery representing exploration, discovery, science and equality.

Matt Harvey, senior curator at the museum, said: "Lego is one of the most iconic toys ... and it was a perfect combination of an entertaining colourful medium and teaching history at the same time."

Harvey said the exhibition was created by a company of Lego artists in the UK led by Warren Elsmore.

He added there were some very small, intricate models as well as "some very grand models" and the exhibition was split into five different areas.

The tiny re-creations include Concorde and Titanic models which can fit into a person's hand, as well as a 1.5m (4.9ft) square medieval castle.

Harvey said his favourite model was one telling the story of the London Blitz in World War II.

It features a bombed-out street with a red double decker bus which had been upended and figures swarming over the rubble after a bomb has been dropped.

"Because there's so much detail you can spend a lot of time just poring over a model picking up lots and lots of different things," he said.

Helen Glencross MBE, head of culture and heritage services at the museum, said: "We know this exhibition will be hugely popular with local audiences and visitors alike.

"It is a wonderful opportunity to explore world history from a unique perspective and enjoy some truly impressive Lego artistry."
