Saharanpur mosque row: YouTuber Huda Zariwala held over 'objectionable' remarks against Yogi Adityanath

SAHARANPUR: YouTuber Huda Zariwala has been arrested in Saharanpur for allegedly making objectionable remarks against Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath and the district magistrate over the demolition of a mosque inside the collectorate premises.Zariwala was arrested on Monday evening after she reached the Circuit House in connection with a protest against the demolition, police said, news agency PTI reported.Additional superintendent of police (City) Vyom Bindal confirmed her arrest.The action followed a complaint filed at Sadar Bazar police station on Monday morning by advocate Dushyant Singh.In his complaint, Singh alleged that Zariwala made "objectionable, indecent and provocative" remarks against the chief minister and the administration over the removal of the structure from the collectorate premises.He also alleged that a video of her remarks subsequently went viral on social media, PTI reported.The complainant claimed that the remarks had triggered public anger and could adversely affect peace and communal harmony in the area.Police said further legal action was being taken in the matter.Zariwala, who was born in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, describes herself as a journalist, YouTuber and social worker.She began her career as a news anchor with Saudi TV Channel 2 and later worked with the BBC in London and a Noida-based channel between 2015 and 2021.She has also been associated with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as a spokesperson and campaigned in Haryana, Punjab and Delhi during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.A mosque located within the premises of the district collectorate office was demolished on September 5 amid heavy police deployment.In 2025, Bajrang Dal regional convener Vikas Tyagi had approached the court of the city magistrate, alleging that the structure located within the collectorate premises was illegal.The Saharanpur city magistrate subsequently declared the structure illegal and ordered its demolition.The mosque management committee challenged the order in the district court, which rejected its appeal on September 2.(With agency inputs)You Can Also Check: Gold Rate in Meerut | Silver Rate in Meerut | Bank Holidays in Meerut | Public Holidays in Meerut | Meerut AQI | Weather in Meerut | Petrol Price in Meerut | Diesel Price in Meerut | CNG Price in Meerut | LPG Price in MeerutStay updated with the latest Meerut news.
