AAP MLA Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh resigns from Punjab assembly

AMRITSAR: The internal turmoil in the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) refuses to die down, after AAP MLA from Amritsar North Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh resigned from the Punjab Legislative Assembly. In the recent past, two sitting party MLAs—Chetan Singh Jouramajra from Samana and Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra from Sanaur—have also resigned from the party's primary membership. In a one-line resignation letter uploaded on his Facebook page, on Monday , Kunwar, a former IPS officer, wrote to the Speaker of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha: “I hereby tender my resignation of my seat in the House with effect from 1.11.2026.” The resignation had been sent through email, WhatsApp and post.In an accompanying message addressed to the public, Kunwar said he would remain indebted to the people until his last breath for the love and respect they had bestowed upon him.He claimed that he had achieved 90 per cent of the targets he had set for himself as an MLA and had provided area-wise details of the works undertaken by him. He also said he had always raised the voice of Amritsar and fearlessly taken up its issues.Kunwar further claimed that his greatest achievement had been helping end the 'mai-baap' culture in politics and working with the people as his source of inspiration. However, he gave no clear indication of his future political plans except saying only that his objective would be to work with the people in shaping the strategy ahead and ensuring clean politics and transparent, efficient governance.Notably, in June last year, the party had suspended Kunwar for five years over alleged anti-party activities. The decision was taken by the party's Political Affairs Committee.Kunwar was also not inducted into the Punjab Cabinet after the formation of the AAP government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. You Can Also Check: Gold Rate in Amritsar | Silver Rate in Amritsar | Bank Holidays in Amritsar | Public Holidays in Amritsar | Petrol Price in Amritsar | Diesel Price in Amritsar | CNG Price in Amritsar | LPG Price in AmritsarStay updated with the latest Amritsar news.
