The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it killed a senior Hamas member and two other militants in an airstrike in the city of Jenin in the West Bank.

The Hamas member was involved in the financing and carrying out of attacks on Israeli civilians, the military and the Shin Bet domestic security service said on Friday evening.

He was also said to have been responsible for the Islamist terrorist organization's activities in the Jenin refugee camp.

Weapons were allegedly found in the car of those killed. The Israeli military did not initially provide any details regarding the identity of the Hamas member's two accomplices.

Last year, the Israeli army carried out a large-scale offensive against Palestinian militants in the city, as well as in two other refugee camps in the West Bank. Numerous people were killed, tens of thousands were driven from their homes, and massive destruction was caused.

According to the Israeli army, what it called the "Jenin terrorist network" was allegedly dismantled during this operation.

The situation in the occupied West Bank has deteriorated further since the Hamas massacre in Israel on October 7, 2023 and the resulting Gaza War.

According to the Palestinian health ministry, more than 1,100 Palestinians have since been killed in the West Bank during Israeli military operations, armed clashes and Palestinian attacks. Violence by radical Israeli settlers against Palestinians has also risen sharply.
