Ram Rahim returns to Rohtak’s Sunaria jail after 21-day furlough; Dera chief convicted in 2017 rape cases, serving 20-year sentence.
ROHTAK: Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh returned to Rohtak’s Sunaria jail on Wednesday after completing his 21-day furlough. His convoy left the Dera headquarters in Sirsa for Rohtak Jail at around 2 pm and reached around 5 pm.The convoy included two Land Cruisers, two Fortuners and two Scorpios. Activity at the Dera had reduced since Tuesday evening. Ram Rahim was released on Aug 26 on his 17th temporary release in nine years. Earlier this year, he was granted 40 days of parole in January and 30 days in May.After completing the 30-day parole, he returned to Sunaria jail on June 25. Ram Rahim was convicted by a special CBI court in Panchkula on August 25, 2017, for raping two women disciples. On August 28, 2017, he was sentenced to 20 years in prison in the two cases.He continues to remain in jail in connection with these convictions. Ram Rahim was earlier sentenced to life imprisonment in the murder conspiracy case involving former Dera manager Ranjit Singh.A special CBI court had convicted him in 2021 and sentenced him to life imprisonment. However, the Punjab and Haryana high court acquitted him in May 2024. Ram Rahim was also earlier sentenced to life imprisonment in the murder of journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati.
