Weather tomorrow: IMD forecasts rain, thunderstorms in 18 states; 60 kmph winds likely

NEW DELHI: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast rain and thunderstorms across several states in the coming days, with fairly widespread rainfall expected in Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab and Karnataka. Gusty winds could reach speeds of up to 60 kmph in some areas.Delhi weather tomorrowDelhi is likely to remain partly cloudy on Thursday, with the possibility of very light rain from the forenoon to afternoon.The IMD has forecast fairly widespread rainfall over the northern plains till September 17, with isolated heavy rainfall and thunderstorms expected in neighbouring states.Karnataka weatherThe IMD has forecast widespread rainfall, including heavy showers, across several districts of Karnataka over the next two days.Fairly widespread rainfall is expected across coastal, Malnad and interior districts of Karnataka under the influence of the southwest monsoon and a low-pressure area.Punjaba, Chandigarh and Haryana weatherThe IMD has forecast fairly widespread rainfall on Thursday, with isolated areas likely to receive heavy rain.Weather warning across statesThe weather warning covers a wide geographical area, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Karnataka, Telangana, Gujarat and Maharashtra, among other regions.Gusty winds could reach speeds of up to 60 kmph in some areas, and authorities have advised residents to exercise caution during adverse weather.Monsoon withdrawal updateThe southwest monsoon is likely to begin withdrawing from the country around September 19, with the retreat expected to commence from west Rajasthan.The normal withdrawal date for the region is September 17, while last year the process began on September 14.The IMD said India's cumulative rainfall deficit currently stands at 15%. Several districts, particularly in western, southern and northeastern regions, continue to record deficient rainfall.Despite the expected retreat of the monsoon, several parts of the country are likely to receive additional rainfall during the week.
