Mohali police file FIR against immigration consultant Rakesh Rakhi for allegedly cheating 10 people of Rs 1.3 crore with false Canada work permit promises.
Mohali: A case has been registered against an immigration consultant based in Mohali for allegedly duping 10 persons of over Rs 1.3 crore on the promise of securing Canadian work permits.Mohali police registered an FIR against Rakesh Rakhi on charges of criminal breach of trust, cheating and provisions of the Immigration Act.According to the police, 10 complaints were examined during the inquiry. The complainants alleged that the consultancy collected varying amounts from them after promising Canadian work permits, but the visas were not issued within the stipulated period. They alleged that their money was not refunded in several cases.The investigation, conducted by DSP City-1, assessed the total amount involved at over Rs 1.3 crore.Police said Rakhi is already facing multiple cases and is currently lodged in Nabha jail. Investigators will now examine bank records, company documents and payment details.
