Mom dead, baby critically injured after being pushed from Bronx balcony; police seek ex-boyfriend
A 23-year-old woman and a baby fell from a Bronx apartment in New York City on Tuesday, a fall that left the woman dead and the baby in critical condition.
A 23-year-old woman and her baby were pushed from an apartment balcony in New York City on Tuesday, leaving the woman dead and the baby in critical condition, police sources told NBC News. A spokesperson for the NYPD said the incident happened in the early hours of Tuesday morning at 2550 Olinville Avenue in the Bronx. The spokesperson said that upon arrival, the woman and baby had “injuries indicative of falling from an elevated position.” The mother, who police did not identify, and her baby were transported to a nearby hospital. The 23-year-old died from her injuries while her baby — who is under 1-year-old and a girl, according to police sources — remains in critical condition. There are no arrests at this time, according to the spokesperson, and the investigation remains ongoing. Police sources say that the mother was holding the baby when they were pushed off of the balcony. NBC New York reports that police are reviewing video of a person wearing a hoodie leaving the vicinity shortly after the crime occurred. The person seen leaving the area is believed to be the person who pushed the pair, according to police sources. However, NYPD detectives are looking to question the ex-boyfriend of the 23-year-old-woman, according to police sources. The sources did not name the man they are looking for. They have not linked the ex-boyfriend to the person who left the area wearing a hoodie. Witnesses reported hearing a disturbance in the woman’s apartment before she fell to her death, according to the sources. Police sources said there is a history of domestic violence at the woman’s address. It is unclear how high the woman and the baby were before they plunged to the ground below.
