Watch live: Melania Trump hosts Russian, Ukrainian officials at White House

First lady Melania Trump is set to bring Russian and Ukrainian officials together at the White House on Thursday, following her efforts to broker a temporary ceasefire in the region.

The six-day pause in fighting, secured late last month in the Russian-occupied city of Oleshky, allowed humanitarian aid to reach civilians and hundreds of residents to be evacuated.

The meeting comes ahead of another round of U.S.-mediated peace talks next week. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed hopes that the negotiations could lead to a trilateral summit with President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, and an end to the nearly five-year-long war.

The event is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. EST.
