MUMBAI: Mumbai Police have registered a case against 25 people, including Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader Amit Thackeray, over a protest held outside Shivaji Park police station against the detention of demonstrators demanding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation. The FIR also names MNS leader Sandeep Deshpande and Shiv Sena leaders Varun Sardesai and Mahesh Sawant. Police have invoked Section 189(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), relating to unlawful assembly, along with Sections 37(1), 37(3) and 135, in connection with the alleged violations of prohibitory orders.Aaditya and Amit staged the protest on Sunday, objecting to the detention of demonstrators who had taken to the streets over alleged irregularities in the electoral process. The protesters were demanding Kumar’s resignation over alleged discrepancies in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.Reacting to the detentions, Aaditya accused the BJP of being afraid of citizens protesting on the streets.“The BJP government is scared of Indian people, Indian citizens. And that's why you see they've been arresting every Indian who's a patriot coming out on the streets. BJP is scared. Those who ran away from us and joined the BJP, all those traitors, what are they saying now? Where is Eknath Shinde hiding? Where are the six MPs who went with him hiding? Where are all their allies?” he said.FIR over October 4 march at Azad MaidanThe latest action follows a separate FIR registered by Mumbai Police against organisers of a joint morcha held by MNS and Shiv Sena (UBT) on October 4.The case was filed at Azad Maidan police station after the march towards the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) headquarters was allegedly held without mandatory police permission and in violation of prohibitory orders in force in South Mumbai. The protesters had gathered to oppose CEC Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the SIR of electoral rolls.(With agency inputs)You Can Also Check: Gold Rate in Mumbai | Silver Rate in Mumbai | Bank Holidays in Mumbai | Public Holidays in Mumbai | Mumbai AQI | Weather in Mumbai | Petrol Price in Mumbai | Diesel Price in Mumbai | CNG Price in Mumbai | LPG Price in MumbaiStay updated with the latest Mumbai news.
