Jamshedpur: Ahead of Durga Puja, city police, in coordination with Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC), Mango Municipal Corporation (MMC) and Jugsalai Municipal Council (JMC), will launch an extensive drive to clear encroachments from roads and approach lanes leading to pandals.Six busy roads have been identified for the first phase of the anti-encroachment operation. More roads and lanes may be added next week.The identified stretches include Dimna-Mango road in Mango; Rankini Mandir-Sheetla Mandir stretch in Kadma; Karandih-Chandni Chowk road in Parsudih; Kuan Maidan-Birsanagar-Baridih Chowk road in Birsanagar; Sonari airport roundabout-Kagalnagar road in Sonari; and Kasidih-Bhalubasa road in Sakchi.Lanes leading to Tarun Sangh Puja Samiti and Kendriya Durga Puja Samiti pandals in Sonari, Hare Parvati Durga Puja Samiti pandal in Telco, the second entry gate of Tatanagar railway station in Burmamines and Satighat Road in Kadma have also been marked for the drive.“Most of the roads and approach lanes identified for the operation are encroached upon by heavy vehicles parked along the roadside or vendors who have set up shops illegally,” said Kendriya Durga Puja Samiti (KDPS) general secretary Ashutosh Singh.A KDPS delegation met senior police officers on Friday to discuss traffic management and preparations for Durga Puja. KDPS is the apex body of around 350 puja committees in the city.SP (city) Lalit Meena assured the representatives that measures would be taken to ensure smooth traffic during the festival.Discussions also focused on traffic near major pandals and congestion at key junctions. Police have identified Golmuri roundabout, Mango roundabout, Dimna Chowk, Rankini Mandir Chowk in Kadma, Kasidih Chowk in Sakchi, Agrico Chowk in Sidhgora, Kharkai bridge in Bistupur, Tatanagar railway station Chowk and Kagalnagar Chowk in Sonari as congestion-prone locations.
