Ranchi: India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds across Jharkhand from Wednesday to Oct 9, raising concerns over pandal construction and outdoor arrangements as Durga Puja preparations enter the final stage.Although the southwest monsoon has begun withdrawing from Jharkhand, intermittent rain and thunderstorms could disrupt painting, decoration, electrical installations and other finishing work ahead of Navratri.IMD has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds of 30-40 kmph at isolated places till Oct 9. According to Baburaj PP, scientist and head of IMD’s Ranchi centre, the weather is being influenced by trough systems extending across Bihar, Jharkhand and adjoining regions.Organisers fear fresh showers could delay painting and drying of pandals, damage decorative materials, cause waterlogging around temporary structures and hamper lighting and electrical work. Wet ground conditions may also affect flooring, barricading and visitor access arrangements at major puja sites. Many organisers are focusing on waterproofing, drainage measures and safe storage of decorative materials while closely monitoring local forecasts. The expected improvement in weather could prove crucial for lighting trials, final touch-ups and crowd-management preparations before the festival begins.Weather remained varied across Ranchi on Tuesday, with light hail and rain reported in Kokar, intermittent showers in Lalpur, strong winds in Hehal and sunny conditions on Main Road.Stay updated with the latest Ranchi news.
