Big twist in Bengaluru kidnapping case: In-laws 'plotted' woman’s abduction; how 3 men tracked her husband

BENGALURU: Investigation into the abduction of a 21-year-old woman by a group of men from Rajasthan has taken a different turn, with police finding that the men allegedly acted on the instructions of her in-laws. The incident led to high drama on Magadi Road after alert members of the public chased and caught the abductors.In-laws allegedly wanted her back in RajasthanIn her complaint filed at Magadi Road police station, the woman alleged that her mother-in-law had threatened her with dire consequences if she did not leave her son, who lives in Agrahara Dasarahalli, and return to Rajasthan with the men sent to take her. She also alleged that the men misbehaved with her while forcing her into their Hyundai Venue on Wednesday evening.The incident went viral after the car driver rammed into several vehicles and injured a few people, including a nine-year-old girl, while fleeing. Video clips of members of the public chasing the car and thrashing its occupants also went viral. The public learnt of the alleged abduction when the woman told them she had married a man from another caste and was being forcibly taken back to Rajasthan.Couple married despite family oppositionMeanwhile, the woman’s husband, Ramesh (name changed), told police that their families had opposed their relationship, forcing the couple to opt for a court marriage in February. Citing a threat to their lives, Ramesh brought his wife to Bengaluru, where he has been working and living for over a decade.The couple initially stayed at a close relative’s house and recently moved into a newly constructed house on the second floor of a rented residential building.Three men allegedly kept watch on husbandBased on the woman’s complaint, Magadi Road police arrested Rakesh, 31, Karan, 28, and Ayan, 18, all from Pali in Rajasthan. Police said the trio had been hired by the woman’s father-in-law.They drove to Bengaluru around 10 days ago and stayed at a hotel near Majestic. They also allegedly monitored Ramesh’s movements by parking their vehicle some distance from his house. The car’s driver, identified as Saddam, remains at large.A senior police officer said Ramesh’s parents would also be arrested for their alleged role in planning and executing the abduction.Men allegedly used father’s name to lure her outAccording to cops, the men knocked on the woman’s door, claiming they had been sent by her father. Trusting them, she opened the door and walked with them to the car.She realised she had been trapped only when they made a video call to Ramesh’s mother.In her complaint, the woman said the abductors instructed Saddam to “mow down” anyone who came in their way.“The vehicle was being driven rashly and brushed against other vehicles on the road. Instead of stopping, the driver pressed the accelerator and tried to flee. We were followed for around 2km before the car was blocked.
