Working group created to study air connectivity in Alderney

A new working group has been created to oversee a review of the air services between the Channel Islands and the UK.

Alderney's Policy and Finance Committee established the Air Connectivity Oversight Working Group, comprised of States members Steve Roberts as chair, Veronica Taylor and Kevin Gentle.

The group was formed after Roberts proposed the States of Alderney commission an independent review of air services between the island, Guernsey, Jersey and the UK.

Roberts said the review would help develop an evidence-based understanding of the current challenges affecting Alderney's air connectivity.

Aurigny blamed weather conditions for most of the cancellations in the first two months of the year.

The airline said some cancellations in March had been caused by technical issues with the Twin Otter aircraft based in Guernsey and other cancellations had been caused by pilot absences .

"Recent disruption has reinforced the importance of understanding the challenges facing Alderney's air connectivity," Roberts said.

He added the first phase of the review was set to focus on gathering evidence and data on the impact of air connectivity on employment, healthcare, education, tourism, business activity and everyday life.

The working group will consider operational statistics collected by local pilots, as well as passenger survey data collected by the Alderney Chamber of Commerce, with both datasets covering the period since February 2026.
