'Bunked classes, borrowed friend’s car': Days after BMW plunge, Navi Mumbai teen’s Honda City skids 70ft down hill, tells the tale

NAVI MUMBAI: A 17-year-old boy driving a Honda City lost control while negotiating a turn atop Parsik Hill in Belapur Thursday afternoon, sending the car skidding down the slope from a height of around 70 feet before it landed on Belapur-Uran railway tracks near the exit of a tunnel around 3.30pm.Patil suffered minor head injuries after the car somersaulted. Police said the airbags opened and he was thrown onto the rear seat. The incident comes days after a BMW crashed through a Coastal Road ramp and plunged 70ft, killing three college students.The teenager, Chinmay Patil, was taken to MGM Hospital where he received sutures and was discharged, police said. Patil, an HSC student at a Sanpada college and a resident of Sector 22, Turbhe, had bunked classes Thursday and borrowed a friend's Honda City to visit Parsik Hill, said inspector Lakhan Raskar of CBD-Belapur police station."He had parked the car near Sant Shri Vishavnath Maharaj Samadhi atop the hill. Around 3.30pm, while turning to leave, he accidentally accelerated instead of applying the brakes and lost control. The car then skidded down the slope and landed near the tunnel exit on the railway tracks."Swapnil Nila, chief PRO, Central Railway, said, "Due to the car landing on the Belapur-Uran railway track near the tunnel, only one train towards Uran got stranded, as train frequency is less on this harbour route."
