7-year-old girl dies after collapsing in class amid loud DJ procession in UP; 2 arrested

LUCKNOW: Balrampur police on Wednesday night arrested a DJ owner and an operator after a seven-year-old student died allegedly because of loud DJ music being played near her school during a Ganesh idol immersion procession on Tuesday.Police arrested Chandra Prakash Verma, owner of Balaji Hightech DJ, and Rampal Saini, the DJ operator, while Shailendra Kumar Yadav, in charge of Mewalal police outpost, was suspended. Santosh Mishra, Kotwali Nagar inspector, was also issued a show-cause notice for negligence.An FIR was registered at Kotwali Nagar police station on the complaint of school manager Ashish Kumar Upadhyay, under Sections 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 223 (disobedience to public servant) of BNS.Police also seized the pickup vehicle, the DJ sound system and other equipment allegedly used during the procession.A senior police officer said the deceased was attending classes as usual when she collapsed at around 10.58 am. Teachers immediately attended to her. She briefly regained her posture but collapsed again shortly afterwards and did not respond to attempts to revive her. She was rushed to hospital, where doctors declared her dead.At the time of the incident, a Ganpati immersion procession was passing near the school with a DJ system. A teacher, Ikra Khan, told investigators that the DJ sound had intensified and vibrations could be felt inside the classroom around the time Vaishnavi fell ill.Police are scanning the CCTV footage from the classroom to establish the sequence of events.However, police have not established that the DJ sound caused the girl’s death.
