Europe's women golfers triumph in Solheim Cup

Europe's female golfers regained the trophy at the 20th Solheim Cup after beating defending champions the United States on Sunday.

England's Lottie Woad sealed an early triumph in Cromvoirt in the Netherlands in front of delighted fans with her win against US player Austin Kim. Europe won 15-13 overall.

German Esther Henseleit told broadcaster Sky: "It feels extremely good. Tonight will be really good. It was great fun and everyone played well."

Both teams started the 12 singles matches on the final day of the prestigious continental contest with the scores level at 8-8. Two years ago, the US team regained the Solheim Cup at home in Gainesville with a 15.5-12.5 victory over Europe.

The biennial team competition is the women's counterpart to the men's Ryder Cup.
