Weather tomorrow: IMD forecasts rain, thunderstorms in several states; red alert in Odisha, Delhi-NCR likely to stay dry

NEW DELHI: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast rain and thunderstorms across several states in the coming days, with heavy rainfall expected in parts of Kerala and Odisha, while no significant rainfall is expected in Delhi-NCR as the southwest monsoon continues to withdraw from parts of northwest India.Delhi-NCR weatherDelhi, Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad and Faridabad are likely to remain largely dry on Tuesday, with no significant rainfall expected. The region is expected to remain largely dry over the coming days as the southwest monsoon withdraws from northwest India.Kerala weatherThe IMD has forecast light to moderate rainfall in several parts of Kerala from September 21 to 25, with isolated heavy rainfall likely in Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Idukki and Thrissur.Residents in areas prone to waterlogging and landslides have been advised to remain alert and follow instructions from local authorities.Odisha weatherOdisha is likely to receive heavy to extremely heavy rainfall under the influence of a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal.A red alert for extremely heavy rainfall of more than 20 cm has been issued for Kandhamal, Gajapati, Ganjam and Puri on September 23. Kalahandi, Kandhamal and Rayagada are under a similar red alert for September 24.Several other southern districts have been issued orange alerts for heavy to very heavy rainfall. The IMD has issued red, orange and yellow alerts for different districts until September 27.Andhra Pradesh weatherThe South Odisha-North Andhra Pradesh coast is likely to experience squally conditions as the deep depression moves towards the coast.Winds of 55-65 kmph are likely along and off the coast from September 23 to the evening of September 24.Bay of Bengal weather systemThe deep depression is expected to move towards the South Odisha-North Andhra Pradesh coast and reach the westcentral and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal near the coast around the morning of September 23.Wind speeds could reach 75 kmph over the westcentral and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal on September 23 and continue until the evening of September 24.The IMD has advised fishermen not to venture into the Andaman Sea until September 21, the eastcentral and adjoining northeast Bay of Bengal until September 22, and the westcentral and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal and along the Andhra Pradesh-Odisha-West Bengal coasts from September 22 to 24.Latest IMD updateThe southwest monsoon continues to withdraw from parts of northwest India, keeping Delhi-NCR largely dry.
