Rhino siblings celebrate first birthday with cake

Two rhino calves have celebrated their first birthday with cakes made of pellets, carrots and salad leaves.

Siblings Markus and Mo were born at Cotswold Wildlife Park, near Burford, last year.

The pair weighed about 70kg (11st) at birth, and now weigh about 500kg (78st) each. Their arrival took the number of rhinos at the park to nine, the most in its 56-year history.

White rhinos were close to extinction in the early 1900s, with fewer than 50 thought to remain in Africa. They are now the most numerous of the five rhino species, but the park says conservation remains vital.

'Surreal' for singer to hear songs on Celebrity Traitors

"I love murder mystery and binge watched with my partner and I'm absolutely hooked, I love it."

The latest series of Celebrity Traitors had its fair share of dramatic moments and shock reveals, but its soundtrack has done much to create the moody atmosphere, with its brooding covers and cinematic compositions.

Dorset singer-songwriter Lloren, real name Lauren Bannon, has had three of her songs featured during some of series two's most explosive moments.

"It was only this series that I was like 'Do you know what, I need to watch this' because... I thought this, this sounds like a bit of me," she said in the countdown to the show's explosive finale on 30 October.

Similar solar farm plans to boost councils' coffers

Two neighbouring councils are aiming to generate green energy and money to fund local services by building and running their own large solar farms .

Work begins next week to install 43,000 solar panels on fields that Wokingham Borough Council owns in the village of Barkham.

West Berkshire Council said construction would begin at its site near Grazeley in March, with plans for 35,000 panels.

The schemes are not connected but are just a few miles apart, and are expected to be operational by the end of 2027.

Firefighters tackle pub kitchen fire on high street

Fire crews have been battling a fire in a pub kitchen on the Isle of Wight .

Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue Service was called to the incident at gastropub The Pier View on the High Street in Cowes on Monday. Black smoke was seen rising from a building in the area.

Crew members could be seen emerging from the next door property with rescued animals, including two cats and a guinea pig, as well as oxygen tanks on their backs.

Firefighters have been using a crane to monitor the situation from above.

Police air service denies penis flight path was deliberate

The service that provides air support to the police has denied deliberately drawing a penis-like shape in the sky via a helicopter's flight path .

Gordon Bird, 53, who lives in Ancells Farm, in Fleet, Hampshire, said his two-year-old daughter was woken up at about 23:00 GMT on Monday by a helicopter flying overhead in multiple circles for at least 15 minutes.

He said he was "shocked" after checking its tracking data online and discovering the phallic shape.

But the National Police Air Service (NPAS) told the BBC that the crew was "orbiting the locations they were directed to as part of the search for a vehicle that had failed to stop for police".
