ABVP protests Umar Khalid documentary screening at NLSIU

BENGALURU: Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad on Sunday protested against proposed screening of a documentary on activist Umar Khalid at National Law School of India University on Monday evening.ABVP said that screening amounts “to permitting campus space for propaganda” linked to the jailed activist allegedly part of JNU controversy, Delhi riots and CAA-NRC protests.Filmmaker Lalit Vachani’s ‘Prisoner No. 626710 is Present’ is scheduled for screening from 7am to 8.30am to coincide with Political Prisoners Day. University’s Law and Society Committee has organised the event.The organisation said it had written to NLSIU demanding that the event be called off, but received no response. It has reiterated its demand for immediate cancellation to protect the “institutional integrity”.An NLSIU spokesperson told TOI the screening had been organised by the student committee.
