Satya Niketan building collapse: Delhi University colleges open campuses to shelter displaced students

In the wake of the tragic collapse of a PG building in Satya Niketan, several Delhi University colleges have stepped forward to provide emergency support to students forced to vacate their accommodation. Sri Venkateswara College, located close to the accident site, will remain closed on Monday, September 7, 2026, as relief efforts continue.The college has opened its campus to students affected by the collapse and is providing temporary shelter and food to those unable to access their accommodation. According to the latest notice, all girl students from Delhi University's South Campus and students of Sri Venkateswara College, popularly known as Venky, can seek temporary accommodation and meals on the campus.“Students who have been displaced or are unable to access their accommodation are requested to reach out and seek shelter at the college premises,” the notice stated, urging students to share the information widely so that those in immediate need can access assistance.Colleges step up relief effortsThe tragedy has prompted other Delhi University colleges to extend support to students living in Satya Niketan who have been asked to leave their PGs or rented accommodation due to safety concerns.Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College (ARSD), Jesus and Mary College, and Shaheed Bhagat Singh College have also invited affected students to temporarily stay on their campuses.ARSD announced the relief initiative through its official social media handle, stating that its gates had been opened for students and residents requiring immediate assistance. The college said food, water, and shelter were being made available within the campus.Campus community rallies togetherThe swift response from Delhi University colleges has brought some relief to students facing uncertainty after the collapse.
