Live updates: Lawmakers set to return from recess; Trump attends golf tournament in Ireland

House and Senate lawmakers will return to Washington this week with a packed agenda before much of their focus shifts to the fast-approaching midterm elections .

The Senate is expected to continue talks over the budget resolution and hold a procedural vote on the cryptocurrency regulation bill , among other priorities. The House, meanwhile, will reportedly consider a Senate-passed Russia sanctions bill prior to departing again until mid-November, after House Republican leaders recently cut two weeks from the chamber’s September schedule ahead of the midterms.

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) is scheduled to appear on CNN’s “State of the Union” and NBC News’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday, while House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) is set for an ABC’s “This Week” appearance.

Attention will also be on Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) this week as he is expected to return after a monthslong absence for health reasons .

Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed, a Muslim American Democrat, is also set for a Sunday morning news show interview, as Republicans controversially elevate anti-Muslim rhetoric as a key part of their midterm pitch. El-Sayed is scheduled to appear on CBS News’s “Face the Nation.”

President Trump is wrapping up his weekend trip to Ireland by attending the Irish Open at his golf club in Doonbeg on Sunday. He is set to return to D.C. later in the day.
