Rep. Barry Moore (R-Ala.) is projected to win the race to succeed Alabama GOP Sen. Tommy Tuberville, according to Decision Desk HQ.

Tuberville, a former college football coach, decided to exit the upper chamber after one term to run for Alabama governor.

The result is also a victory for President Trump, who backed Moore in the race to keep the Senate seat in the deep-red Cotton State in Republican hands. The president won Alabama by 30 percentage points in 2024.

In a Senate campaign announcement video , Moore touted being the first elected official in the country to endorse Trump for president in 2015, saying he "didn't wait to see which way the wind was blowing."

Moore, a member of the House Freedom Caucus, served three terms in the House and was previously in the U.S. Army National Guard. He became the Republican nominee after defeating U.S. Navy SEAL Jared Hudson in a June runoff .

Moore had been all but certain to defeat Democrat Everett Weiss, an attorney who won a runoff himself . The nonpartisan election handicapper Cook Political Report rated the Alabama Senate seat as "solid Republican."
