Healey faces off against Minogue in quest for second term as Massachusetts governor

Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey (D) is projected to face off against Republican Mike Minogue in her quest for a second term as the Bay State’s top executive, according to Decision Desk HQ.

Healey ran unopposed in Tuesday’s Democratic primary while Minogue defeated Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority acting general manager Brian Shortsleeve in the GOP contest.

Minogue beat Shortsleeve by over 30 percentage points with 4 percent of the reported by DDHQ as of 8:49 p.m. EDT.

Minogue, the former CEO of Abiomed, faces an uphill battle to defeat Healey in November.

Cook Political Report rates the seat as solidly in Democrats’ corner.

Healey previously served as the state’s attorney general, and she is a staunch critic of President Trump. She easily won her first election for governor in 2022, defeating Republican opponent Geoff Diehl by nearly 30 percentage points.

She is the first woman to serve in the role in Massachusetts and only one of two openly lesbian candidates to win a gubernatorial election in U.S. history.
