Conservative commentator Scott Jennings on Tuesday called the GOP's losses in the 2026 midterms a "country a‑‑ whooping."
"Well, look, I'm not going to sugarcoat it. There's a political science term for what's happening. It's called a country a‑‑ whooping. That's what's happening right now, across the board," Jennings said on CNN Tuesday night.
"Look, you know, there's a lot of reasons for what's happening right now. The most immediate issue is cost of living and gas prices, and that is the bottom line," he added. "You could read into a lot of other things. You can be jubilant about this, that, or the other. But at the end of the day, the American people have here and now concerns, and that's really the lesson you got to take away from this."
Democrats locked down both chambers of Congress on Tuesday, most likely stymieing President Trump's policy agenda for the next two years.
Republicans faced an uphill battle this election cycle amid Trump's slumping approval rating, the unpopularity of the war in Iran and cost-of-living concerns.
According to a polling average from The Hill's partner Decision Desk HQ (DDHQ), Trump's approval rating was sitting at 38.4 percent Wednesday evening, with his disapproval rating at 58.7 percent.
Democrats are projected to go from 47 seats in their Senate caucus to 55, according to DDHQ , and from 214 seats in the House to 261. They also notched victories in states like Texas and Kansas, which have historically leaned red.
