President Trump named Katie Zacharia, a conservative commentator and communications adviser to the president’s media company, as the next White House press secretary.
“She was previously involved in my Campaigns, assisting in key Swing States, where we won 7 out of 7. She has an unblemished record of support, and has been a loyal and brilliant supporter, right from the beginning,” the president said in a Truth Social post on Friday. “She is, likewise, a devoted fan and member of MAGA! I am confident that Katie will deliver strong results for our Country as the next White House Press Secretary, as she has the respect of, and will work fantastically with, the Media, the American People, and my Administration.”
The New York Times first reported that Zacharia would be named to the post.
Zacharia would fill a role vacated by Trump ally Karoline Leavitt, who left the administration earlier this year after the birth of her second child and subsequently took a job as a commentator on Fox News.
Zacharia is a former spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security and most recently served as a top communications adviser to Trump Media and Technology Group, the company behind the president’s Truth Social platform.
She is only the second person to serve as press secretary during Trump’s second term and is the sixth consecutive woman to serve as the post.
She was seen by some as an unexpected pick, with other candidates like CNN commentator Scott Jennings, podcaster and wife of top White House aide Katie Miller and other West Wing staffers being floated as possible replacements for Leavitt.
“The work ahead is to continue delivering strong results for our Country and communicating to the American people the major wins that this Administration is making every single day,” Zacharia said in a post on X. “I look forward to working with the White House press corps, and with reporters across the country, to get that record out.”
