Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-Ga.), who has been floated as a potential 2028 presidential candidate, committed on Tuesday to serving a full Senate term as he reiterated “zero interest” in a White House campaign.
“Yes, I will,” Ossoff said during a Tuesday debate as he runs for Senate reelection, when asked to pledge his commitment to a six-year Senate term if he wins the race in November.
“I have zero interest in running for president. I’m not running for president. I’m running for re-election to the Senate.”
Ossoff has long denied speculation about a possible White House run next cycle, though that hasn’t stopped observers from looking to the rising political star as a potential standard-bearer for the party.
The Democrat was debating against Rep. Mike Collins (R), backed by President Trump, in a race that Cook Political Report shifted toward Democrats just last month .
Ossoff, who won his first term in a high-profile 2020 runoff, is leading Collins by nearly 10 percentage points in Decision Desk HQ’s latest polling averages on the race.
Trump is headed to Georgia on Friday to campaign for Collins as part of a red-state tour against the backdrop of a tough midterm landscape for the GOP.
