Biden to attend Ground Zero 9/11 memorial ceremony for 25th anniversary

Former President Biden will be at Ground Zero in New York City for the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, The Hill’s sister network NewsNation confirmed Wednesday.

A spokesperson verified the former president’s plans to attend the 9/11 site memorial event to the network — a little under a week after White House officials said President Trump would commemorate the attack anniversary at the Pentagon, not Ground Zero.

In addition to Biden, former Presidents Obama, Clinton and George W. Bush are expected to attend the Ground Zero ceremony, according to NewsNation. Past first ladies Jill Biden, Laura Bush and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton are also slated to be in attendance, The New York Times reported .

Next Friday will mark the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, which killed 2,977 people at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and on board the hijacked United Airlines Flight 93 that crash landed in Pennsylvania after passengers fought back.

Unlike his fellow living presidents, Trump will attend a ceremony at the Pentagon on Sept. 11. White House spokesperson Olivia Wales told Fox News Digital on Wednesday the president also plans to honor 9/11 first responders and New York Fire Department officials at the White House on Sept. 8 , ahead of the 25th anniversary.

The Times reported last week that Trump opted not to attend the ceremony in Manhattan because he was allegedly barred from delivering a speech — claims he has denied.

The National September 11 Memorial and Museum has banned speeches from politicians at the ceremony since 2012.

The president pushed back on the report from the Times, singling out one of its White House correspondents, Maggie Haberman, as a “Fake Reporter.”

Trump is scheduled to speak at the Republican National Committee’s midterm convention in Dallas on Sept. 9 and 10. After speaking at the Pentagon on Sept. 11, the president will travel to Ireland on Sept. 12 and 13, where he will attend the Irish Open at his golf course in Doonbeg.

One person briefed on the matter told the Times that traveling overseas is easier if Trump departs from Joint Base Andrews in Maryland than from a commercial airport in New York or New Jersey.

Vice President Vance will attend the Ground Zero ceremony in New York City on behalf of the administration, NewsNation reported. Other White House officials will be at the site of the Flight 93 crash in Shanksville, Pa.
