President Trump is set to headline a midterm rally in Wasilla, Alaska, on Tuesday, just one week after Vice President Vance hit the campaign trail in the state.
Former vice presidential nominee and Gov. Sarah Palin (R) served as mayor of the Alaska city from 1996 to 2002.
The development comes after Vance campaigned in the state earlier this week, holding a rally in Fairbanks on Monday.
Trump and Vance are hoping to boost the state’s incumbent Sen. Dan Sullivan (R), who is facing a competitive reelection bid . Sullivan is running against former Rep. Mary Peltola (D-Alaska), as well as another Republican named Dan J. Sullivan.
The race has become increasingly competitive between the incumbent senator and former congresswoman. Sabato’s Crystal Ball, an election handicapper based at the University of Virginia, moved the race from “toss-up” to “leans Democratic” earlier this week.
Decision Desk HQ, another election handicapper, also has Peltola slightly favored to win, while the Cook Political Report has the race in the “toss-up” category.
Trump has sought to boost the incumbent Alaska senator, most recently involving Sullivan in the announcement of a $54 billion investment in a project to export natural gas from the state.
“So, I want to thank, in particular, Dan Sullivan for getting this deal done,” Trump said alongside the lawmaker last week in the Oval Office.
