El-Sayed hits Rogers on GOP convention appearance in new online game

Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed is trolling his Republican opponent, former Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Mich.), over his appearance at the GOP midterm convention in Dallas via a video game.

The retro-style game’s start screen features the game’s title — Come Home, Mike — and Rogers’s face superimposed on a cartoon body standing on a boat in water.

“Help Mike Rogers find his way from Florida back to Michigan,” text on the start screen reads. “(He hasn’t managed it yet).”

Below the start button, instructions tell the player to “drag Mike’s yacht” and “answer three questions to unlock the doors home.”

Once the game begins, the player starts out in Cape Coral, Fla., shown as a pixelated sandy beach with a palm tree. Those playing the game have to direct Rogers, on his boat, through a maze on water to get to a football field in Michigan.

Football has become a contentious issue in the race , with Rogers accusing El-Sayed of being against the sport and El-Sayed challenging Rogers to a tackle football game in lieu of a debate, which he claims Rogers is ducking.

El-Sayed has slammed Rogers before for moving to Florida after leaving the House, telling the former representative “if you want to be a Florida man, go be a Florida man” last month.

In the video game, Rogers and occasionally his boat hit a roadblock where the player is forced to make a choice between a “yes” and “no” option. However, the “yes” option is never actually available.

“Mike, Michiganders are really struggling with the cost of prescription drugs,” one of the roadblock prompts reads. “Will you agree to vote to lower prescription drug prices when you get to the Senate?”

After the last roadblock, access to the “Michigan” end point is restricted, and the player is directed to the midterm convention in Dallas.

Rogers is speaking at the GOP midterm convention in Dallas on Thursday evening, while other Republicans in contentious Senate races are skipping the event amid Trump’s slumping approval ratings, the ongoing Iran war and Democrats’ recent surge in the generic congressional ballot.
