3 Secret Service officials placed on leave amid misconduct investigation

Three U.S. Secret Service (USSS) officials were placed on administrative leave Tuesday amid an investigation into possible misconduct, a spokesperson told The Hill.

The agency’s Office of Professional Responsibility is conducting the probe, and details around the investigation were not immediately clear. All three officials were non-law enforcement personnel, according to the spokesperson.

“The U.S. Secret Service is committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and integrity in fulfilling our zero-fail mission of protecting the President and other high-level government officials,” they said in a statement.

“Our critical work demands that our workforce maintain an unwavering commitment to duty, honesty, and courage in all aspects of their jobs,” the statement continued. “We will continue to pursue the level of excellence that is worthy of the mission which has been entrusted to us by the American people.”

Last month, a Secret Service agent assigned to Vice President Vance was put on administrative leave for allegedly leaking sensitive information. This followed reporting from MS Now about frustrations from Vance’s security detail over last-minute trips and assignments, which cited unnamed current and former USSS agents and administration officials.

The agency has also faced public scrutiny amid multiple assassination plots against President Trump, including the attempted attack at the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner in April.

The Secret Service was also involved in the secret transfer of the president from the old Air Force One to another plane while departing Turkey last month amid an Iranian threat. Some of his staff and the press corps remained on the other plane and were unaware of the situation.

The event sparked concerns about Trump’s safety while traveling abroad.
