Ocasio-Cortez on if she’d date a Republican: ‘No, no foul to people who do’

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) said Tuesday she probably would not date a conservative, citing the importance of shared values in a relationship.

The New York Democrat laughed when a TMZ reporter approached her on Capitol Hill and asked her whether she would ever consider dating a conservative.

“I have to say it’s, uh, probably not,” she said.

Asked whether she would advise against “dating across the aisle,” Ocasio-Cortez said she had no issue with people who choose to do so, but she suggested differing opinions in politics can reflect broader disagreements over values.

“How you define that is very different from person to person,” she said. “I think a lot of politics sometimes, at least for me, is about values, and being aligned in values I think is tremendously important.”

She reportedly split from her longtime fiance, technology consultant Riley Roberts, two years ago and has been publicly documenting her journey in freezing her eggs . She said the fertility process would give her more time to decide whether she wants to have children while focusing on her political career.

Ocasio-Cortez, who has been poised as a potential contender for the 2028 presidential race, said she found some of the backlash to her fertility journey “funny,” pointing to critiques from commentators after she posted videos to social media documenting the process.

“I also find the freak-out around it pretty funny as well. I’m not going to lie,” the lawmaker said in a 10-minute video documenting the sixth day of her egg-freezing process.

“Some commentator was like, ‘What she’s doing is peddling the dangerous lie that women can have it all,’” she continued. “You know, I find it very funny because the way of life that conservatives are trying to push out there, which is to marry young and have lots of kids at a young age.”

Conservative podcaster Katie Miller, who is married to White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller, defended Ocasio-Cortez’s decision to freeze her eggs, saying that if a woman makes the decision to preserve her ability to have children one day, “we should celebrate that.”
