President Trump posted Sen. Tom Cotton’s (R-Ark.) cell phone number on Truth Social Saturday, lashing out at Senate Republicans to move forward with legislation that would make daylight saving time permanent .
“Tom Cotton, a friend of mine, is holding up a very important Bill,” Trump wrote, describing the Sunshine Protection Act. “For some reason, Tom is stopping the Bill and, in the Senate, it’s very easy to do, it only takes one! It should pass overwhelmingly, in a Bipartisan fashion.”
“To the Great People of Arkansas, please let your Senator know it would be a GREAT Bipartisan WIN for the United States Senate, and for America, itself. Call Tom on his cellphone,” the president continued before he wrote the number. “Let him know.”
Trump blamed Cotton for the bill — which he called the “No More Changing of Clocks Act” — stalling in the Senate after it passed the House with a 308-117 vote.
When asked about the post, Cotton’s office referred to the senator’s statement shared on social platform X , where he said, “No one likes changing the clock, me included, but Congress has enacted permanent Daylight Savings Time multiple times before and repealed it each time once Americans experienced absurdly late sunrises in the winter.”
“Arkansans don’t want their kids going to school in the pitch dark, and I’ll always put Arkansas first,” he concluded.
Cotton, who chairs the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence , has been among the most vocal opponents of permanent daylight saving time —expressing concern that without the twice a year clock changes, many children heading to school and millions of Americans traveling to work would be left in the dark.
“If permanent daylight saving time becomes the law of the land, it will again make winter a dark and dismal time for millions of Americans,” he said last year.
Trump countered that more evening daylight would help reduce crime and traffic accidents, while benefiting public health and industries including sports, tourism, restaurants and retail.
In his Saturday Truth Social post, Trump continued that the bill would help the PGA Tour who “needs more Daylight in the afternoon in order to finish their Tournaments.”
“Likewise, regular Golfers, Tennis Players, Hunters and, perhaps most importantly, Farmers who want more Daylight to play or work,” he added.
The post included a letter from PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp who wrote in “strong support” of the bill — citing that it would generate $1 billion annually in new direct revenue for the sport.
Trump has pushed for the Sunshine Protect Act’s passage since August , but Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) has cast doubt on whether the measure can secure the 60 votes needed to advance.
