Rep. Robert Garcia (D-Calif.) said that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers broke an American citizen’s arm over the weekend.
“ICE agents brutally attacked and broke the arm of a North Long Beach resident and U.S. citizen. The videos are horrific and should concern not just our community but the country,” Garcia said in a Sunday post on the social platform X .
“I’m proud of the neighbors who documented and stood up for the family being terrorized by ICE. Donald Trump and his inhumane and illegal deportation machine must be stopped. Long Beach stands with our community and our immigrant families. ICE is not welcome in Long Beach. Abolish ICE,” the congressman added.
In a separate press conference, the California Democrat said the incident occurred over the weekend.
Garcia’s post comes after multiple notable incidents in which federal immigration authorities have wounded and killed others during the second Trump administration, both citizen and noncitizen alike.
In January, federal immigration authorities fatally shot two U.S. citizens in Minneapolis, Alex Pretti and Renee Good. Their deaths supercharged already intense backlash toward the Trump administration’s immigration agenda.
Earlier this month , an ICE officer shot and wounded a man in New York City. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said at the time that the man had a previous criminal conviction on grand larceny and a number of prior arrests.
The Hill has reached out to the White House and ICE for comment.
