Jeffries, Clark could make history as House majority leaders

This comes as Democrats are projected to take control of both chambers of Congress, with Jeffries poised to make history as the first Black Speaker of the House. He'll face a vote of his colleagues when the new Congress convenes on Jan. 3.

Jeffries was joined onstage by House Minority Whip Katherine Clark, D-Mass., and House Democratic Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar. Clark could also make history as the first woman to serve as House majority leader.

While Jeffries said the midterm outcomes represent a "stunning rebuke of MAGA extremism," he added that the new Congress will "fight hard for every single American wherever you may reside."

Jeffries also noted Democrats are "ready, willing and able" to work across the aisle, but that he hasn't heard from President Donald Trump so far.
