Former Alabama Rep. Jerry Carl (R) is set to return to Capitol Hill, Decision Desk HQ projects .
Carl, who served in Congress from 2021 to 2025, defeated Democrat Clyde Jones, an Army veteran, to clinch Alabama’s open 1st Congressional District.
Rep. Barry Moore (R), who currently represents the district, opted to run for Senate instead.
In 2024, Carl was pitted against Moore, who previously represented the state’s 2nd District, after redistricting put the fellow Republicans within the same district. The former lost to the latter in the state’s GOP primary by just a little more than 3 percentage points.
On the Hill, Carl served on the House’s Appropriations and Natural Resources committees.
The Alabama Republican was the heavy favorite to win Tuesday in the district that includes the city of Mobile.
