The Republican National Committee (RNC) is pouring more than $50 million into efforts to defend the party’s House and Senate majorities in the final two weeks before Election Day.
The New York Times first reported Tuesday that the committee is transferring funds into groups in charge of efforts to boost GOP House and Senate candidates.
The RNC told the publication it moved more than $44 million to the National Republican Congressional Committee and the National Republican Senatorial Committee from mid-August to mid-October. The two committees evenly split the funds.
The House and Senate committees are expected to receive at least $6 million more from the RNC before Election Day next month.
While Republicans generally have a significant fundraising advantage, polling shows the party faces an uphill climb in its bid to secure its majorities on Capitol Hill.
According to The Hill’s polling partner Decision Desk HQ, Democrats lead Republicans on the congressional generic ballot 49.9 percent to 42.4 percent.
Decision Desk HQ’s forecast found that Democrats have a 56 percent chance of winning the Senate majority while Republicans have a 44 percent chance. In the House, Democrats have a 77 percent chance of winning the majority and Republicans have a 23 percent chance.
