Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) slammed conservative commentator Tucker Carlson for a recent podcast appearance during which the former Fox News host questioned whether the United Kingdom “benefited” from its involvement in the second World War.

“Yes, Tucker, the UK is better off for winning WWII,” Cruz responded to the clip in a Friday night post to social platform X.

He continued, “America is better off for winning World War II. And the world would be much worse off if the Nazis had won WWII. This is not complicated.”

Carlson’s comments came during his interview with former U.K. conservative lawmaker Jacob Rees-Mogg, where the commentator made several controversial claims about WWII.

In a segment of the interview, called “Was WWII good for Britain?”, Carlson expressed doubt on whether the U.K. “won” after it helped defeat the Axis powers.

“Has the U.K. benefited from it?” Carlson asked. “There are a lot of people in Britain who can’t speak English, so it would be nice to have at least a European language spoken in your country.”

“Why don’t you tell me the ways in which Britain benefited from — I’m going to use quotes here — ‘winning the Second World War.’ Because from my perspective, it looks like the empire ended. India was lost two years later, the United States took over the world, and has had troops here ever since,” he continued.

Since Carlson’s exit from Fox News in 2023, he grown more controversial among Republican lawmakers — notably drawing ire for hosting a Holocaust revisionist on his self-titled show in 2024.

Throughout the episode, podcaster Darryl Cooper made controversial comments about Nazi Germany’s mass murder of Jewish people, claiming the genocide was a result of poor planning.

Carlson also hosted white nationalist commentator Nick Fuentes on his podcast. Fuentes has denied the Holocaust on multiple occasions and made several antisemitic remarks during his discussion with Carlson.

At the time, Cruz criticized Carlson for interviewing Fuentes, saying at the Republican Jewish Coalition Annual Summit , “If you sit there with someone who says Adolf Hitler was very cool and that their mission is to defeat ‘global Jewry,’ and you say nothing, then you are a coward, and you are complicit in that evil.”
