Fox News host Sean Hannity conceded the U.S. war with Iran was a major factor driving the GOP’s sweeping losses in this week’s midterm elections.
“I think 100 percent, I don’t think there’s any doubt about it,” Hannity said Tuesday when asked by Fox anchor Bret Baier if the Iran war had not been top of mind for voters in this cycle would the results be different.
The Trump-supporting host maintained that while “fundamentals of the economy” are solid under the current administration, “if people don’t feel it, it is a problem.”
“The two years of any presidency is an incomplete grade,” Hannity continued. “People want to border secure, but they didn’t like a lot of the videos [of U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations] that were being hyped up by Democrats.”
Displeasure with the war with Iran and its impact on the economy “is the more dominant feeling force now,” Hannity added.
One of Fox’s longest serving hosts, Hannity has been vocally supportive of the president for years and hosted him for an exclusive interview Monday, just 24 hours before Tuesday’s midterm elections.
The president spent much of election night posting on Truth Social to complain about Fox’s coverage of the midterms, arguing the network spends too much time highlighting Democrats and not his accomplishments.
Republicans were handed major losses in the House and Senate on Tuesday, setting up a clash with the president during his last two years in office.
