Trump to host group of vulnerable GOP lawmakers at White House

President Trump will host a group of Republican lawmakers facing rough reelection bids for a Rose Garden dinner on Wednesday, the White House confirmed to The Hill.

The development comes as lawmakers and candidates approach the post-Labor Day sprint ahead of November’s midterm elections, with many Republicans calling on the president to use his resources to boost them in their races.

Rep. Derrick Van Orden (R-Wis.) is slated to attend, while a source familiar told NewsNation that Rep. Mike Collins (R-Ga.), who is facing an uphill Senate bid against incumbent Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-Ga.), will also attend.

Rep. Tom Barrett (R-Mich.) will attend the dinner, according to Politico.

Some Republicans have voiced frustrations that Trump is not spending enough of his money to defend the party’s narrow majority in Congress. However, Trump has signaled that he will spend more ahead of the midterms.

MAGA Inc. spent more than $827,000 to support Sen. Darline Graham (R-S.C.) in her primary runoff last month.

“Well, I’ve raised a lot, and nobody knows what it is, but I will tell you it’s about $850 million,” Trump told reporters ahead of a campaign rally for Graham last month. “I’ll be spending a lot of that money for — and my own money — but I’ll be spending a lot of that money for candidates that I think are good, Republican candidates.”

MAGA Inc. is slated to hold two $1 million-per-person fundraisers this fall at Trump National Golf Club in Virginia and at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, according to invitations obtained by CBS News on Monday.
