Delaware Sen. Chris Coons (D) is projected to clinch a full third term on Capitol Hill, according to Decision Desk HQ.
He defeated Republican Michael Katz, a former Democratic state lawmaker. Katz ran for Senate unsuccessfully in 2024 as an independent.
Coons was first elected to the Senate in 2010 in a special election for the seat held by Democratic Sen. Ted Kaufman. Kaufman was appointed to the seat when former President Biden resigned to become vice president in 2009. Coons easily won reelection in 2014 and 2020.
On Capitol Hill, Coons serves as vice chair of the Senate Ethics Committee.
