Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) won his reelection campaign in Arkansas, securing a third term in the Senate, according to Decision Desk HQ.

The outcome comes after many polls predicted Cotton would overcome his opponent, Democrat Hallie Shoffner.

One poll from Hendrix College did turn some heads after it put Shoffner ahead in the deep-red state, but the sixth-generation Arkansas farmer was not able to prevail.

Despite the race being labeled as “safe” for the Republican by Decision Desk HQ, Cotton vastly outspent his opponent by millions of dollars.

Cotton was first elected to the Senate in 2015 after previously serving in the military.

He has worked his way up in the Senate to the No. 3 position among Republicans and serves as chair of the Select Committee on Intelligence.

Cotton is known for his tough stance on illegal immigration and pushing for tax cuts, and he has generally aligned himself with the president.

Cotton and President Trump had a battle during the senator’s time on the campaign trail due to Cotton’s opposition to permanent daylight saving time , which Trump has strongly advocated for.

“No one likes changing the clock, me included, but Congress has enacted permanent Daylight Savings Time multiple times before and repealed it each time once Americans experienced absurdly late sunrises in the winter,” Cotton posted on social media. “Arkansans don’t want their kids going to school in the pitch dark, and I’ll always put Arkansas first.”
