Trump dismisses report on talks to add name to Ford’s Theatre: ‘Ridiculous lie’

President Trump on Wednesday dismissed a report that alleged his administration pushed to include his name on Ford’s Theatre, calling it “a ridiculous lie.”

“The story that the White House, or me, want to affix my name to Ford’s Theatre, in Washington, D.C., where Abraham Lincoln was assassinated, is a ridiculous lie. It is FAKE NEWS,” Trump wrote on Truth Social . “Who would possibly want a name on such a tragic place?”

“The Dumocrats suffer from serious Trump Derangement Syndrome. They are Degenerates and Losers who make up lie after lie, and this Ford’s Theatre Hoax is just another one of their never-ending, malicious falsehoods to try to discredit and demean,” he continued.

The MS NOW report stated that former and current White House officials told the outlet discussions had emerged about renaming the historical landmark, but it was unclear where the proposal stood. It further alleged that officials, advisers and allies close to Trump pitched adding his name to different sites and buildings in an effort to please the president.

Ford’s Theatre is designated a National Historical Site by the National Park Service (NPS) and is the site where President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated in 1865.

Trump added Thursday in a Truth Social post that it was “FAKE NEWS started by MSDNC AND CNN.”

The Trump administration has attempted to change Washington’s landmarks with several proposed, in-development or completed projects, including a triumphal arch, as well as changes to the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool and the Kennedy Center.

Earlier this month, a federal judge blocked an effort by the Kennedy Center’s board — who were all hand-picked by Trump — to add the president’s name to the institution and to rename its campus after Trump.

“If we’re going to save the Kennedy Center, I think the Trump administration should be given recognition for doing so,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office before the ruling.

The arch is also receiving criticism from veterans groups due to the arch’s location in the Memorial Circle; the 250-foot arch would break the line of sight between the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery.

The project also would result in “ adverse effects ” to nearly 40 historical locations in Washington, according to an NPS assessment .
