Texas Republican House candidate Trever Nehls is projected to win his race for the Lone Star State’s 22nd District and replace his twin brother, Rep. Troy Nehls (R-Texas), according to preliminary results from Decision Desk HQ (DDHQ).
Trever Nehls won the district’s Republican primary by a landslide and faced Democratic opponent Marquette Greene-Scott in a solid Republican district. Trever Nehls garnered about 52 percent of the vote while Greene-Scott notched 48 percent, with more than 95 percent of the vote reported as of Wednesday afternoon.
Trever Nehls is a retired U.S. Army colonel who first enlisted in 1988. He later commanded service members in Iraq and Afghanistan. He was recognized for his service with three Bronze Stars and the Combat Action Badge.
He previously served as constable for Fort Bend County Precinct 4 from 2013-20. He also ran his own company, Nehls Consulting LLC.
President Trump endorsed Trever Nehls last December , not long after Troy Nehls announced his retirement . He praised the Nehls brothers for being “fierce advocates” for the MAGA movement.
A wave of prominent elected Republicans backed Trever Nehls, including House Speaker Mike Johnson (La.), House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (La.), Sen. Ted Cruz (Texas), Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick.
Troy Nehls told constituents he chose to retire to focus on his family “after conversations with my beautiful bride and my girls.” He said he spoke with Trump before making the decision.
