Trump says new press secretary to hold first press conference next week

President Trump said Sunday that his new White House press secretary, Katie Zacharia, will hold her first press conference next week.

“I am pleased to announce that Katie Zacharia will be beginning her term as Press Secretary tomorrow, Columbus Day, and will be doing an introductory News Conference on Tuesday at 9:30 A.M. from the Press Briefing Room in the White House. Katie has been with me, in spirit, from the very beginning, and will do a fantastic job!” Trump said in a Sunday evening Truth Social post.

Trump recently named Zacharia, a conservative commentator and former Trump Media communications adviser, as the next White House press secretary.

“She was previously involved in my Campaigns, assisting in key Swing States, where we won 7 out of 7. She has an unblemished record of support, and has been a loyal and brilliant supporter, right from the beginning,” the president said in a Truth Social post on Friday.

The New York Times was the first to report of Zacharia’s selection for the role.

Zacharia is set to step into a job vacated by Trump ally Karoline Leavitt, who stepped away from the administration earlier this year following the birth of her second child. She also took a job as a Fox News commentator.

Zacharia has previously held roles as a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and a top communications adviser to Trump Media and Technology Group, the parent company of Truth Social.

The former DHS spokesperson is the second press secretary in Trump’s second term and the sixth consecutive woman to hold the role.

“The work ahead is to continue delivering strong results for our Country and communicating to the American people the major wins that this Administration is making every single day,” Zacharia said in a prior post on the social platform X.
